I finally had a chance to relive my childhood fantasy and checked out the pop-up Malibu Barbie Cafe in New York. Perfect for anyone that grew up with Barbie as a child like me or simply a devoted fan. If you are looking for something fun to do this summer in NYC, you should add the Malibu Barbie Cafe to your summer bucket list for sure. Before taking a trip there, you must register online because walk-ins are not accepted. Since the event is presented by Bucket Listers, you can register here. It is located down by the beautiful Seaport at 19 Fulton Street, New York, NY.
It is a family-friendly atmosphere with a strong Barbie aesthetic inside and out. The outside decor is what attracted me and for others as well with all the pink decor from the cute posters, umbrellas and gorgeous plants was such a vibe. Look at the beautiful pop-cafe from the outside. I mean let us face it, who would not want to eat here at this fun little gem?
Pricing & What’s Included In Your Ticket
Let us talk about the pricing. Right now, there is an early bird special between $39-$49 for adults. For children it is from $22-$30. Depending on where you want to be, they do offer table seats for groups as well as bar seats. The early bird special will end soon, and prices will indeed go up so if you want to check it out, I highly recommend getting your tickets as soon as possible, preferably on a weekday where there are less crowds than that the weekends. The earlier the better! Once you purchase your ticket, this is what it includes:
- A 90-minute table reservation
- A choice of an entree and a side item
- All access to the Malibu Barbie Cafe experience
- The Barbie gift shop
- Additional shared plates, desserts, and drinks available for purchase
The Indoor Cafe Experience
Once I got inside the Malibu Barbie Cafe, all I could say was wow! The environment gives off fun beachy 70’s vibes with a mixture of pop art of the 80’s and 90’s. There were so many fun instagramable photo ops throughout the cafe including a life-sized Barbie box, a beach scene with real sand and chairs, and a surfing scene. There are two floors full of seats including the outside with views of the Seaport area. I opted to stay inside because I wanted to explore the pop-up cafe and what it had to offer indoors. Giving off that Barbie retro feel, it took me back to that little girl that once looked at Barbie as a way of life. There is also a Barbie Cafe Beach Shop where you can shop for the cutest Barbie merchandise.
The only minor downside I had was the lightning in the cafe. I felt like the lightning should have been a little better. Especially the Malibu Barbie Cafe where there will be so many people snapping photos and taking videos. I found myself turning on the flash from my iPhone to capture most of my shots. If you do check out the cafe this summer, please keep this in mind so you will be prepared. Overall, the inside decor from the Malibu Barbie Cafe is beautiful and very eye-catching for Barbie fans.
Menu, Food, Drinks & Service
The food and drinks were good at the Malibu Barbie Cafe. Master Chef semi-finalist Becky Brown created the menu. Included with the ticket was an entree along with a side. Me and my bestie opted for the grilled cheese sandwiches for the main and for the side, I got fruit, and she went for the French fries. The grilled cheese was exceptionally good made to perfection and the fruit was so delicious and fresh. My bestie also loved her grilled cheese and enjoyed her French fries.
In addition, we ordered additional items from the menu which was the surf’s up spinach artichoke dip served with chips and the beach mojito cocktail. Shoutout to our server because she was so amazing and very pleasant. The customer service throughout the cafe was on point and everyone there was so patient, friendly, and nice.
